Strengthening Atrium’s Presence in Canada
Atrium Economics is expanding its leadership with the appointment of Indy Butany as Managing Director, Canada, based in Ontario. Indy brings more than 25 years of leadership experience in the energy, infrastructure, and public sectors, including her recent role as President & CEO of Elexicon Energy and senior regulatory affairs positions at Alectra Utilities and Horizon Utilities.
Atrium has supported Canadian clients in past regulatory, rate design, and policy matters, and with Indy’s leadership we are building a lasting presence to be closer to our clients and deliver even greater value locally.

Indrani (Indy) Butany is Managing Director of Atrium Economics Canada, leading the firm’s regulatory strategy, innovation, and equitable energy policy work across the country. A respected executive with over two decades in regulated utilities and public policy, she previously served as President and CEO of Elexicon Energy, Ontario’s fourth-largest local distribution company, becoming the first South Asian woman to lead a utility in the province.
Indy is widely recognized for advancing reconciliation, diversity, and sustainability in Canada’s energy sector, including developing Elexicon’s Reconciliation Action Plan and partnering with Indigenous-owned businesses. She holds an MBA in Finance and B.Sc. in Psychology from McMaster University, the ICD.D designation, and serves on several boards, including Women in Energy Canada and McMaster’s DeGroote School of Business.
