Lars Renborg
Consultant
Based in Calgary, Alberta, Lars Renborg is an economist and consultant with more than a decade of experience in electricity forecasting, wholesale market design, and regulatory economics. He specializes in long-term load and generation forecasting, market design and the application of economic analysis to support strategic and regulatory decion-making in the energy sector.
Lars combines analytical rigour with extensive stakeholder engagement experience. He has a proven ability to translate complex market design and forecasting issues into clear, actionable insights for utilities, regulators, market participants, and the public. His forecasting methodologies and analytical work have withstood regulatory scrutiny and he has successfully led market design initiatives involving extensive stakeholder consultation and collaboration.
Prior to joining Atrium, Lars was a Senior Economist with the Alberta Electric System Operator (AESO), where he led the design and implementation of Alberta’s the Restructured Energy Market’s (REM) ramping product through a comprehensive public stakeholder engagement. In this role, he worked closely with industry participants, regulators, and government stakeholders to develop practical market solutions that balanced reliability, efficiency and stakeholder interests.
Lars has also held a series of forecasting roles focused on long-term electricity demand and generation outlooks. His work supported transmission planning, resource adequacy assessments, infrastructure investment decisions, and corporate strategic planning. He has extensive experience developing and defending forecasting methodologies and communicating technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Lars holds both bachelors and masters degrees in Economics from the University of Calgary, with a specialization in electricity markets and regulatory economics.
